About Me

So, this is supposed to be about me.  Hmmm, I’m not used to talking about myself so I’ll start with some basics and go from there. 😉

Background Info

  • An Avid Outdoor Enthusiast Ever Since I Can Remember.  While in high school and college I even preferred to do my studying outdoors at one of the local parks rather than indoors, then “rewarded” myself upon completion of each day’s work by reading portions of “Walden” by Thoreau
  • Started Biking (Cycling) In Elementary School Then “Graduated” To Long-Distance Cycling In College and Post-College Years
  • Was Active In The Boy Scouts of America From Weblos Through Explorers.  Voted into the “Order Of The Arrow”.  Later served as a Scoutmaster
  • Former Fire Department Captain and SARS Volunteer
  • Former Law Enforcement Officer (FTO Field Training Officer)

Current Activities

  • Photojournalist For Motorcycle Related Events
  • Summers – Support Provider For Hikers On The Appalachian, Bartram, and Benton MacKaye Trails
  • Winters – Carpentry, Woodworking, and Crafts
  • Elder Care Provider Year ‘Round
  • In Addition To Cycling I Enjoy Backpacking, Horseback Riding, Boating, Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Camping, Travel (especially to National Parks/Forests, Lakes, Southern Coastal Waters, or the Blue Ridge Parkway), and Grilling Outside
  • Last, But Not Least (To Me Anyway)… Long-Term Cancer Survivor

I’m a Friendly, Outgoing, Alpha-type male who loves a good joke and the occasional prank or “got cha”.  I’ve been compared to a cross between Jimmy Stewart and Robin Williams for my personality, however that is doing both of these wonderful men a great injustice.  I’m just me… a bit quirky and off the wall, yet very passionate about my goals, beliefs, and love of the outdoors.

Blogging Style

As you can see from the above, one of my endeavors is being a photojournalist, which means while writing in that venue I have to follow certain guidelines and forms of speech.  I’m not going to be that formal here.  This will be more of a “fireside chat” or conversational style blog.  Some of it will be fun and light-hearted, some will be serious, all will be from the heart.  Since I will be addressing people of all education levels, lifestyles, persuasions, races, and genders I’ve decided to write this as if I’m having a casual conversation with a friend.  Hopefully we will become friends somewhere along the line.  I plan to be open and non-judgemental to what you have to say, and hope you will do the same.  Enjoy!  🙂

One of my all-time favorite quotes is, “Everywhere Is Walking Distance If You Have The Time” – Stephen Wright. Perhaps this should read, “Everywhere Is Cycling Distance If You Have The Time” – Bill  🙂
